Spots of unique natural beauty
In the area there are many places of natural beauty that you might want to visit. We recommend the following for nature tourism:
- The meadows of Pertouli. A broad plateau, meadows scattered with small ponds, horses and other animals running free, all surrounded by coniferous forests. There you can enjoy various activities, such as horse riding, mountain biking, hiking, and archery. Lovers of mountaineering can follow the mountaineering path leading up to Koziakas’ shelter. In the meadows of Pertouli, the annual gathering of the Sarakatsani takes place, during the last weekend of May.
- The meadows around “Xyloyefira” (wooden bridge)
- Mount Koziakas (Kerketio) is part of the Pindos mountain range and is protected within the Natura 2000 network. Its highest peak is at an altitude of 1,901 meters. You may also visit Lake Koziaka, which is at an altitude of 1,500-1,600 meters.
- Manas Gorge is located between Pertouli and Neraidochori, and is a habitat for bears, wolves and deer.
- Antichasia Mountains are forested mountains north of Trikala, part of the eastern Pindus range. Its highest point is 1,416 meters. It is designated as an area of special importance for birds and constitutes a wildlife sanctuary. It is also included in the Natura 2000 network.
- Mount Avgo, has three peaks exceeding 2,000 meters (Lupata, Marosa, Avgo).
- Acheloos River. Visitors will find facilities for kayaking near Alexiou bridge.
Aspropotamos area: A gorgeous landscape consisting of 8 forests, countless springs, streams, tributaries, rivers and the springs of Acheloos river, A rich habitat with many plant and animal species, also part of the Natura 2000 network.
