Lake Plastira
The artificial Lake Plastiras is 59 km away from the Chatzigaki Manor. Its official name is Tavropos Reservoir. It was created in 1960-1062, after the completion of the construction of the dam on the Tavropos (Megdovas) river. The construction of the dam and the creation of the lake/reservoir were first visualized by general Nikolaos Plastiras, a prime minister of Greece. After WWII, the idea became a reality, the dam built with funding from the Italian military compensation to Greece and the lake was formed. Its total surface area is 24km2 and its water is used for irrigation, water supply, and as power source of the 129.9 Mwatt hydroelectric plant.
Surrounding the lake there are dozens of villages. In recent years Lake Plastira has also become a tourist resort and offers many facilities and activities.
